"I wanted to bring something to the market that had never been done before" - A software company in Los Angeles released a collection of online toys and games intended to amuse: cats.
For close to a decade, video game designer Matt Wolf tried to home in on the instincts of 13- to 24-year-old males, the key demographic for most games. The software includes 11 virtual kitty treats, including helpless little birds, dangling spiders and a furry mouse, that dart around the computer screen. The victims either move on their own as part of the program's screensaver mode or are manipulated by the cat's owner.
The main goal is to get housebound cats to spend some quality recreation time batting at a PC monitor. via CNet (May 27., 2001, )
New York Times inks different - The NYT mentioned a just-completed mural near the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles. However, the mural was attributed to the wrong company. The absolutely wrong company:
"....As visitors drove up to the Staples Center this afternoon, they could view a just-completed mural on the outside of a downtown hotel. On the left was Wilt Chamberlain finger- rolling the ball in, in the middle was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar launching a sky hook and on the right was O'Neal dunking ferociously, his knees up in the air, like a kid hanging on a jungle gym in the playground. On top of the mural was the Microsoft slogan, "Think Different." ......" [page has been corrected] (May 27., 2001, )
