[ The Register ]: "The PowerPC G5 has been passed for full-scale manufacture, a source close to Apple has claimed. And the Mac maker is still on course to ship Power Mac G5 desktops at Macworld Expo San Francisco in just over a months' time - provided Motorola can increase the chip's yield.
According to our mole, the G5 is tentatively being produced in three versions: 1.2GHz, 1.4GHz and 1.6GHz. We say 'tentatively' because there still appears to be some concern that there will be insufficient 1.6GHz parts for a commercial release. Says our source: "The chips that are testing at 1GHz are being set aside in case there are not enough 1.6GHz chips to release that machine."
In short, if Apple can't do 1.2GHz, 1.4GHz and 1.6GHz Power Mac G5s, it will release 1.0GHz, 1.2GHz and 1.4GHz-clocked".
(November 29., 2001, )

3D Studio: [ ThinkSecret ] "Discreet May Release 3DS Max for Mac OS -- According to sources within the 3D industry, the core development team for 3DS Max has had it suggested to them many times that they port the product to Mac OS X. With Maya now running on OS X, it may be important enough for 3DS Max to get into the Mac market.[ more... ]

Final Cut Pro: [ Thinksecret ] "While Apple originally planned to ship the new software at DV Expo next month debugging hold-ups have reportedly delayed the release by two weeks. One source did not rule out a demonstration of Final Cut Pro for OS X at DV Expo, however, even if it isn't shipping until later. "Final Cut Pro is running -- and running very well -- on OS X as we speak," he said. [ more... ] (November 26., 2001, )

IPod Much More than a MP3 Player - Apple's IPod really is a universal PDA that will host a wide range of future capabilities.
[ Mac OS Rumors ]: "The iPod utilizes a set of unified technologies, including a simplified handheld operating system, that are intended for use in future Digital Lifestyle devices of many different kinds. As a result, it has numerous capabilities that are not presently used - at least not to their full ability. For example, it has support for CD burning, 32MB of RAM, dual StrongARM processors (and apparently an additional DSP chip specifically for functions like MP3 audio playback), and even a built-in game of Brickout. (...)
That it is not named iMusic or something similar belies the device's true nature -- it's a surprisingly powerful handheld computer based around a 5GB Firewire hard drive that could later be upgraded to handle ever-increasing capabilities like a CD-RW drive, DVD-RAM, DVD playback with an external TV/display, more handheld-like functionality, interfaces to iMovie, iDVD, Final Cut, and other Apple applications, and a very long list of other possibilities.
Apple sources did comment that a wide range of future add-on options exist for the iPod." [ more... ] (November 21., 2001, ct)

iPod a Potential PDA? - Comes with two ARMs and a brain capable of development.
[ÊDailyMac ]: "Equipped with 2 ARM processors, the iPod packs more punch than you'd expect it to÷and it runs an OS developed by a company called Pixo, a company founded by a once "key member" of the Newton team. Their OS is intended for cell phones and other embedded devices, and offers quite a suite of compatible applications which I list below. The rumors of Apple introducing a PDA have been greatly exaggerated, but the strange fact is, they released something that has PDA-potential instead. [Êmore... ] (November 11., 2001, )

iPod - MP3 auch ohne iTunes - Ohne iTunes geht im Regelfall bei iPod nichts - auf die gespeicherten MP3s kann man nicht zugreifen.

Finally: Webmin for OS X - Webmin puts full control of most of the UNIX command-line applications (configure Apache, FTP, MySQL, Samba, DNS etc.) into a browser-based interface.
Webmin is a web-based interface for system administration for Unix. Using any browser that supports tables and forms (and Java for the File Manager module), you can setup user accounts, Apache, DNS, file sharing and so on.
Webmin consists of a simple web server, and a number of CGI programs which directly update system files like /etc/inetd.conf and /etc/passwd. The web server and all CGI programs are written in Perl version 5, and use no non-standard Perl modules. Webmin now supports Mac OS X and OS X Server.
This is an incredible tool. And: it has142 3rd party modules and 2 fancy skin themes! (November 3., 2001, )
